What's the best journey you've taken?
I wonder what is meant by "best" – think the term is somewhat unclear in this context. Perhaps this might be rephrased e.g. most memorable?
Probably my most memorable journey is when I climbed the steep ice face of El Altar, a remote and difficult peak in Ecuador, first ascended in 1963. However, I'm not sure I would describe it as my "best" journey, as I was nearly killed along with two guides when the guide leading, who was unbelayed, fell plummeting head first from the summit ice couloir. Fortunately I managed to hold the fall by jamming my wrist in a tape sling hanging from a rusty old piton. The force pulling me down on the rope felt enormous, but somehow both the piton and my wrist held. It felt like an eternity waiting for the second guide to hammer in an ice screw to secure the rope. The climbing is serious and sustained in beautiful untouched scenery. We had been on the move for 24 hours when we returned to our tents.

What uninvented gadget does the world need?
I'm not really much of a fan of gadgets. I struggle with things like remote controls.
